Silicon Nitride is a ceramic material with extraordinary properties. Besides the high wear resistance and strength it also has low specific density and  high thermal conductivity.
Traditionally the material is shaped by  a combination of pressing technique and machining,  e.g. ultrasonic grinding.  Formatec is the first company to offer Silicon Nitride products produced with CIM technology. With an extensive research program  Formatec qualified the subsequent process steps and binding system  for this new material. In order to strengthen the unique position Formatec developed  three grades; light grey, dark grey and gold bronze.

Silicon Nitride continues to gain attention from researchers and engineers. Improved processing possibilities now allow a wider spectrum of applications. Besides  the known applications as bearings and cutting tools, exciting new applications have been developed. 
Multiple parts for satellite frame applications are known. Also high-end camera modules are constructed with Silicon Nitride frames. Formatec recognizes this development and aims  for the aesthetical and technical market with the qualified Silicon Nitride feedstock. During  the research program  Formatec performed research studies for both industries already.
